Announcing the 2022 Schedule of Performances + Art Actions

While every shanty is open during all public hours, the Performances + Art Actions pop up at different times throughout the village: in the centrally located Town Triangle, at specific shanties, interspersed between shanties, roving, or at the Ice Field, an expansive space near the back of the village for larger scale projects. A map will be posted in January.
Check out the schedule below (and link to descriptions) to help plan your visit. January 22 overlaps with the Lake Harriet Winter Kite Festival so expect art in the air as well as on the ice (and LOTS of people)! Some projects repeat at regular times – we’ve got the Art Cars every Saturday at 11, yoga on Saturdays at 2:30, hula hooping and poi Sundays at 11, and daily dancing! Many shanties also have their own performance elements beyond the festival offerings listed below.

The shanty village is open 10am – 4pm on weekends from January 15 – February 6. ASL interpreters and audio describers will be available every day from noon – 3pm (and until 4pm on Kite Fest day). Meet at the Welcome Shanty to get connected with a guide who will accompany you throughout the village. Kicksleds are also available for accessible transport from shore to village and throughout. Volunteers will be ready to assist (or, bring a friend to push)!
Art Shanty Projects is a joyful expression of public art, and we have a commitment to prioritize public health in our operations. In the spirit of abundant caution and love for our community, we are offering an EXTERIOR-ONLY EXPERIENCE for visitors this year. All shanties can be engaged with from the outside or in the open air (no going inside the shanties this year), and we are hosting more performances and art actions than ever before. Be kind to one another! Keep safe & warm! We strongly encourage you to wear a mask.
