The Holding Shanty
What does it mean to be held? In partnership with Better Futures Minnesota, Holding Shanty reflects the experiences of incarcerated people and serves as a place to look into the relationship between people in prisons and society at large. The Shanty’s form and programming put forward meanings at once tender and uneasy: when do we hold each other back, and how do we hold each other up? In collaboration with people working and living within many different aspects of incarceration, the Shanty team offers the public community discussions, talks, spatial experiences, drawing sessions, story exchanges, and other methods as new ways of visualizing and discussing some of the issues around incarceration.
