Curatorial panel
We invite artists, curators, arts administrators, producers and shanty enthusiasts to join our curatorial panel!
Our panel for the 2025 open call has already convened – but you can submit your interest form at any time to be considered in the future!
Most of our artists come through an open call process — where they share their project vision through an application. The Artistic Director works with a panel of jurors to review, score, and discuss the proposals, resulting in the selection of the shanties and performances that visitors see!
We select jurors annually for our Curatorial Panels in June. They review and score open call proposals individually in July and then come together in August for a discussion to approve projects for the On-Ice Program. We have two panels: one for shanty projects, and one for performances + art actions.
Time commitment: advance review of proposals + one 4-hour in-person session to discuss together.
This is a volunteer position. We provide a $100 honorarium for your participation.

Timeline:
- July 19: guidelines, rubrics for scoring, proposals/submissions ready for juror review
- July 20 – August 9: review and score proposals on your own time / independently
August 10-11: in-person jury sessions, 1-5pm each day
Jury sessions are in person in south Minneapolis (each juror only attends one session):
- August 10, 1-5pm – PERFORMANCES + ART ACTIONS
August 11, 1-5pm – SHANTY ARTISTS
