2025 Open Calls

2025 OPEN CALLS

The deadline for the 2025 Open Calls is Thursday, July 11 at 11:59pm CST

It's time to start dreaming about shanty season...

Art Shanty Projects is currently seeking winter enthusiasts and creative adventurers to propose shanties, performances and art actions for the 2025 Program which will take place on Bdé Umáŋ (Lake Harriet) from 10am-4pm on Saturdays and Sundays, January 18 – February 9, 2025.

We invite music-makers, poets, builders, scientists, dancers, movers, shakers, writers, dreamers, activists, outdoors-people, conversationalists, silent practitioners, craftspeople, storytellers, winter cyclists, and creative people of ANY KIND to propose new and innovative ways to engage artistically with the public in the social context of a village on a frozen lake (or beach, as climate change may necessitate).

With refined guidelines and requirements in response to COVID, climate change and accessibility, we encourage you to read the specifics carefully.

ARTIST FORUM – JUNE 18

The artist forum was an info session presented by the Directors of Art Shanty Projects. If you missed it (or want to reference what you learned) we got you! Photos that illustrate the types of projects, spaces and requirements, and a recording of the zoom session can be found HERE!

Tell us YOUR WILD, WEIRD, SHANTASTIC ideas for this winter!

2025 CALL FOR SHANTY ARTISTS

Shanty artists build physical installations that remain throughout the month and are activated during all public festival hours. Shanties this year can be the classic interior version or can be an entirely exterior experience.

2025 CALL FOR PERFORMANCES + ART ACTIONS

These artists make projects for shorter durations (an hour, a day, a few days, etc). They  may or may not have physical structures. Our definition of ‘performance’ and ‘art action’ is broad.

Deadline for all applications: 11:59pm CST – Thursday, July 11, 2024
